Keady Michael Dwyers, formerly known as Keady John Dillons, were formed in 1888, a mere four years after the formation of the G.A.A.
Keady Michael Dwyers are called after a famous Irish rebel who fought during the 1798 rebellion and who continued to fight a guerilla war against the English in the Wicklow Mountains. Their former name, John Dillons, came from a Land Leaguer and friend of Charles Stewart Parnell. Keady seemed to change their name after John Dillon became an anti-Parnellite, when Parnell had an affair with Kitty O'Shea. The G.A.A. fully supported Parnell at the time.
Keady Michael Dwyers have won four Senior County Championships in their history. 1938 (V. Tír na nÓg), 1953, 1956 and 1984 (all V. Armagh Harps). They have contested 8 county finals, losing to Young Irelands (1934), Crossmaglen (1937), and Armagh Harps (1957 & 1958) in the other 4 finals. The picture on the right is of the victorious 1956 Keady Michael Dwyers.
Keady are proud and honoured to have had three representatives involved with the 2002 All-Ireland Senior Football Champions, Armagh. John Toal, Paul Mc Cormack (players) and Patrick Óg Nugent (County Board Secretary).
