I don't think there's been any stand-out players in this years championship to date. Having said that, the Player of the Year is usually chosen because of two good performances in the semi and All Ireland final. So, its all to play for yet I reckon.

Agreed corn Kelly has been excellent for Kildare for this year but will likely be over-looked becasue he is a corner-back.
People have mentioned the Dublin full-back O'Carroll, this was a player that was very poor against Wexford and was taken apart by Meath fowards in the Leinster Championship, and for me shouldnt be in contention

Has to be John Doyle of Kildare by some distance. Down.....beware!!1
Surely Bernard Brogan has to be player of the year. Was awesome against Armagh, Tyrone and carried all the threat against Cork. If only we could get him a job in Armagh, a staunch Armagh wife and family and an orange jersey!
Also, would Marty Clarke be eligible for young player of the year?
If were to pick the Player Of The Year on performance and consitency, it would go to Bernard Brogan no doubt for leading the Dublin forwards in every game this year that he has played, especially in the Armagh game, were he seemed to throw Andy Mallon like a ragdoll in which he scored 9 of Dublin's 14 points that day!! Unfortunately, these performances would tend to be overlooked as Dublin failed to reach the Final and may just lose out on the POY prize, but definitely an All-Star Award nonetheless!!
I will feel that the POY will come from the Down/Kildare game this weekend, and i feel if Benny Coulter can produce a big performance again Kildare, i reckon that he'll be in with a very good shout, with the same coming from Martin Clarke also!!
I can't really choose a POY from Cork as their performances have been hot and cold this year, just doing enough to win the games that they have played, but the player that has caught my eye this year for cork is Andy Kerrigan, who plays half-forward!! He's a good carrier of the ball who has also scored vital points for Cork!! So he maybe in contention for POY!!
i dont see how Bernard Brogan cant win POTY, then again the selection committee are hardly reliable.
Has anyone the list of past winners, and does anyone know when the last player to win it came from a team who hadn't reached the final?
Last 15 winners :- Galvin , Cavanagh , O'Se (M) , Donaghy , O'Neill , O'Se (T) , McDonnell , Mcgeeney , Joyce , Moynihan , Giles , Donnellan , Fitzgerald , Giles , Canavan - in each of those years the player concerned played for a finalist.
I still make Brogan clear fav unless somebody turns in 2 back-to-back stormers semi plus final.
Brogan has wothout doubt been the best player in Ireland this summer but I fear he may not get the POTY award. I think it will be someone from Down or Kildare (Coulter, Clarke, Doyle, possibly Kavanagh or Bolton depending on performances). I cant pick one individual from Cork who I think deserves it and as either Down or Kildare have two huge matches left I think there will be a few huge individual performances which may well decide who receives the award.
