Thanks a million begbie - was intending to go home to have a punt on brogan ; but not at 30/100 ; although i do think he's home and hosed.just think that the panel will have at the forefront of their thinking that brogan by himself carried dub to within 2 pts of an all-ireland final.

Hrd to imagine he won't get it. Thought for sure Doyle would be in the betting. Wouldn't pick one of those other three so strangely 3 finalists look a long way short of a beaten semi-finalist in the running.

2 THINGS I'VE LEARNED THE HARD WAY AFTER MANY YEARS OF GIVING BOOKMAKERS A SUMMER HOLIDAY IN THE cARRIBEAN - (1) THEY ALMOST ALWAYS KNOW MORE THAN WE DO AND (2) THEY WILL QUITE OFTEN ATTEMPT TO SWAY OPINION THROUGH MAKING SOMEONE/SOME HORSE ETC RIDICULOUSLY SHORT TO LULL MUG PUNTERS INTO THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY KNOW SOMETHING AND THEY WONT MIND LAYING BROGAN ALL DAY LONG AT 30/100 =- THEY HAVE CLARKE ON THEIR SIDE AND THERE'S ALWAYS THE CHANCE THAT HE WILL HAVE A REALLY BIG GAME IN THE FINAL

I agree if Clarke or Coulter have a good game in the final they will press Brogan for player of the year, however the southern media will have a hugh say in the final decission.

The decision could come down to who ends up winning Sam. Its been seven years since a player outside the All-Ireland winners won the Player of the Year award, when Stevie McDonnell won it in 2003. Every year since then the winner has come from the All-Ireland winners, so if Down win Sam ,Coulter and Clarke have a great chance.

While Brogan has been the stand out player of the year, Johnny Doyle did outscore him and the POY usually comes from the Ai winners, so it might push Clarke and Coulter up the runnings.
Apart from Goulding, i'm not sure Cork have had too many outstanding palyers this year to win the POY award.

I feel Kelly from Sligo might have been in the running had they lasted longer in the championship, and not been trounced by Down.

I do agree that the media tend to get carried away with players that have come back from Australia. Look at all the attention given to Tadgh Kennelly last year. Personalluy I don't think he deserved the Alll star he got.

Right, but didn't Canavan win the other 2 awards, Texaco and some other one...............complete joke!!!!!

I just wish the panel would pick the best player in this years c'ship and not someone from the final........Brogan has been exciting to watch and rarely missed a score.....however,

I wouldn't bet against Coulter...hes been @ a while, been consitent this year....and if he has a good scoring final, he could nip it.......

Martin Clarke has been good......but not brilliant......
