Default Armagh v Westmeath - National League Div 2

Westmeath, sunday 14th in Crossmaglen at 2pm.

What's your proposed line up and why?

    Mine.

Toner hasn't put a foot wrong in FB and I strongly believe it's were he should be.

McEvoy (has to get his chance after Hearty's poor display in goals and his kicking)

    Mallon
    Toner

Shannon (needs to be given a chance)

    Kernan
    McKeever (needs the games)
Duffy (would rather have him in HBL)

    Vernon
    Lavery

Swift (has potential and needs another go after being quiet against Meath)
    Mallon
    Dyas
(again potential is there and needs games under his belt)

    Clarke
    McDonnell
    Henderson
(would like to see how he performs playing along side our 2 best forwards)

I'm happy with that team selection, all those who remain from the Meath game earned another chance. Good to see Hearty replaced, long over due. T.Kernan will pose a different type of threat than Nippy, and will probably be trusted with free taking duties as well.

Good point on Hearty Saranboy, I am glad that he is not going to be playing in the game, his greatest strength is the length of his kickouts but it is amazing that although Tierney had no length to his kickouts in comparison he always seemed to get the ball to an Armagh man, Hearty cannot pick his spot and the ball invariably ends up in the hands of an opponent.
Hearty is also suspect under a high ball and although he has excellent reflexes I know we have better waiting in the wings and I hope Hearty is a sub come championship time.

We are solid enough at the back and in the forward lines, the problem is midfield for us, we have been blessed with wonderful midfielders down the years, McKInstry for example, Mark Grimley and McGrane etc, we no longer have that and if we are to compete this year we will have to crowd the middle and break ball down to the awaiting HB's/HF's.

Heres hoping Paddy bloods some of the talent that we never see in the county jersey and that the team has a fresh look about it come championship time. Armagh Abu.

I would like to see Aarron Kernan play a full game on the half foward line, i think he has great vision he can pass and take his score. Is this not the time of year to try new things out ?

I totally agree and I'd have duffy take his position in the hbl. I'm not convinced having duffy in fbl.

Iwould put B Donaghy in Aarrons place he likes to get foward, take K Toner back to fb but that leaves us with a hole in the middle , maybe M Mackin could step in there

Yea Stew, Heartys kickouts were starting to become suspect, even started putting a few out over the sideline, pity Ciaran McKinney wouldn't re-think his retirement. I'd be happier with Hearty sitting in the stands beside me, never mind on the bench, for a man his size he should be going through men under a high ball, not yellowing out of the challenge.

As for the midfield thing, I'd have Lavery and Vernon in the middle, Toner FB, Donaghy CHB, Dyas and McKeever WHB, A.Kernan and Feeney WHF
