The parking at Casement is a bit crap but all least there are good roads into it and a quick get away unlike Clones where you might be waiting an hour to get out of the place. Newry might have been a suitable venue with easy access from Monaghan. Also, some of our friends from south of the border might be a bit more comfortable with Newry than with west Belfast. No offence to Belfast....... Why does the G.A.A always have to do it the hard way?
( Jamie Clarke's the boy!)
Thank God and our County Board for having the sense to go to Roger Casement Park.
Clones..........how many matches have they got down the years, and with all the income accrued, what have they got to show for it, answer.. NOTHING......the Town itself is a shambles, nothing but greedy business people who " up their prices " on match days, a haven for the " Blue bag brigade", the " Beer Garden ", and then St Tiernachs Park, an insult to all Ulster Gaels, even the sub standard toilets, not to mention the seating arrangements, and then getting into the place and out of it......... nightmare. If I had my way, there would never be another match in the place.
Holy God this thread is going a bit nuts.
have watched henderson in the last two matches he has worked very hard & unselfishly for the team & having been very good in the last two games he still is sacrificed around ten mins into 2nd half, it wont be doing his confidence any good at all to be looking over your shoulder all the time, ronan clarke pointed out last week in the i news that he is a very good player justs needs to build a bit more confidence its hard to see that happen when he is expecting to be called off every match, i think he needs to take a more selfish attitude & think off his own game & get some points on the board this is the only way it seems he can consolidate a place ,also a kernan seems reluctant to deliver any ball towards him that has been apparent in both of the last two matches.
Cheers, Corn. Any word on Lavery's injury. Thought he was doing well.
my 15 for Monaghan:
Hearty
Mallon Donaghy Martin (to pick up Woods)
Duffy McKeever Moriarty
Toner Lavery
Nippy Aaron Charlie
McDonnell Ronan (if fit, unlikely)/Forker Henderson
With the like of J Clarke, Feeney, MOR, Dyas, Mackin, Shannon et al on the bench we have the players to creat the perfect blend between muscle and flair.
Haven't heard a peep on Lavery since Sunday. Didn't look good.
I'd still much rather McEvoy in than Hearty, but I know there is no way you can drop him after Sunday - he took his chance.
I have a feeling we'll revert back to normal against Monaghan and, because of this, Shannon may come in. Martin certainly did his chances no harm on Sunday, Woods gave hima tough time in the Legaue last year, he's the sort of boy who'd relish a rematch though. Probably the mosy physical player we have alongside McKeever and Vernon so may be fit for him – i don't think he'd start though.
Surprised to see Mackin taking a lot of criticsm over on the GAABoard. Ok when I watched in on tv he kicked more wides than I realised, but he did alright. Break balls, tackles, at least he had shots at goal, something our half forwards don't bother with in recent years. Thankfully so, in MOR's case.
One poster over there called Mackin a disgrace. He did well on Sunday, but defensively more than attacking, and I probably wouldn't start him, which would be harsh too.
Dyas and Jamie Clarke are too options as well, the second especially so. MOR will be in contention too, a slugfest with Monaghan is his sort of game.
My, very early, preferred team, assuming R Clarke and Lavery are out. Actually preferrred is loose because i'd still rather McEvoy, but Hearty is nailed on, and deserves it after Sunday if you know what I mean.
Hearty
Mallon Donaghy Shannon
Duffy McKeever Finn Mo
Toner Vernon
Swift AK MOR
Henderson McDonnell Dyas in a roving role (I'd still be inclined to take Jamies on rather than start him)
I was impressed by Martin on Sunday, for someone who has had next to no League time. He did a great job in nullifying Lynch, although Derry wans would say he has a tendency to drift out of games.
I think Woods is the type of player who needs special treatment and while Shannon may have the legs for him (although he is surprisingly quick for such a bulky specimen), he may not have the physicality. In fact, Woods is the only forward I have seen Paul McKeown really struggle with, so the physical aspect is a major consideration when marking him.
Martin managed to put it up to Meaney (the Laois No 11) in the League this year before his sending off. Before Vinnie's introduction Meaney had been winning the physical battle against Dyas - although Kevin's distribution/vision that night foretold of good things to come.
Management clearly thought it was a case of horses for courses against Lynch on Sunday and it worked. I'm sure no one really expected Martin to be considered before Dyas but he was introduced for a specific role that worked a treat. The defence rests!![]()
It's interesting that you include MOR and give Dyas a roving role. If McKeever was to play a sweeper then I think we could, again, see too many in defence. I don't see anything to fear by going man for man against Monaghan and I think if the Donegal and Down games are anything to go by, a more positive attacking display may reap dividends. If MOR was fit then he may be able to offer more than B Mallon (not slating his efforts at all). Could be a day for MOR alone to be given the dirty ball seeker role.
